Haumanu Natural Products

Haumanu Natural Products are throughly tested before before being offered to the market place. Haumanu products are derived from plants currently growing in the local bush - often, but not always, New Zealand traditional natives.

These products are unique and natural. Karen Brunton, the owner and creator of Haumanu products, says, "These natural healing processes were practiced by my ancestors. I am happy to share them with you, along with the genuine love and healing energy that make my products unique."

Haumanu Natural Products uses the following natural and unique key products in the manufacture of our products.

Kawakawa

Kawakawa is one of the most distinctive New Zealand native plants. It was one of the most important healing herbs in Rongoa Maori (traditional Maori medicine) .Use of Kawakawa as a healing or tonic herb is still popular today.
Decoctions or infusions of Kawakawa leaf, or simple chewing of the leaves, were widely used for stomach pains and indigestion. Kawakawa leaf applications were also used topically for bruises and rheumatism, the pain of neuralgia and nettle stings, as well as for eczema. Kawakawa infusions or decoctions have long been a popular treatment for colds and influenza, and this probably relates at least in part to the significant diaphoretic effect produced by such preparations.

Manuka Oil

Manuka (also known as Tea Tree) oil is sourced from the leaves of the Manuka Tree which is native to New Zealand. Our Manuka Oil comes from the trees from the East Cape region of New Zealand. It has been tested to show that it is more active, and there fore more beneficial, than any other species of Tea Tree.
Manuka Oil is well known for its antiseptic, antibacterial, anti-inflammatory and antifungal qualities that can soothe minor burns, cuts, grazes, insect bites, skin irritation and sunburn.

Lavender

Lavender is widely grown throughout New Zealand, and most people are familiar with lavender as a plant that is both ornamental and fragrant. It is also enormously useful, providing us with one of the most indispensible of the essential oils.
Lavender oil used in aromatherapy has antifungal and anti-bacterial properties; it helps soothe tired muscles and promotes a sense of calm and relaxation. It hastens the healing of burns and scars, as well as softening the skin. Lavender oil is obtained through steam distillation.

Rosemary

The Latin name of this plant (Rosmarinus officinalis) means dew-of-the-sea, probably because rosemary generally grows well by the seashore. Rosemary was used as incense by the ancient Romans and according to legend, Mary sheltered the baby Jesus under a rosemary bush. Rosemary oil is extracted from the fresh flowering tops by steam distillation.
Rosemary Oil helps to ease congestion, puffiness and swelling and can also be used for acne, dermatitis and eczema, but a very popular use of this oil is the use in hair care products, as it has a pronounced positive effect on the health of the hair and scalp. It increases the circulation to the scalp and is therefore also effective for promoting hair growth.

Olive Oil

Olive leaf extracts can have a number of applications in cosmetics. First of all, from their traditional use as a cicatrizing agent, they can be incorporated into a formulation for skin damage either by UV radiation or for assisting with wound healing. This activity is explained by the presence of flavonoids and oleanolic acid, which stimulate the components of the connective tissue and regularize the tissue - thereby boosting the health of the skin.
The secoiridoid derivatives (oleuropeoside) in olive leaves are responsible for the vaso-dilating and relaxing properties of their extracts.
